Yields1 Serving
 1 lb ground beef
 2 tbsp oil
1

Set the pan on the stove on Medium heat. Add the portion of oil mentioned under "Cooking and rendering fat", which the beef fat will render into, and both will be discarded.

2

Add the ground beef to the pan, break it into pieces, stir it and such, until it’s all broken up and cooked to a light brown color.

3

Turn off the heat, and then push all the beef to one side of the pan, and incline the pan so that the fat/oil goes to one side and the beef is on the other side.

4

Remove the fat/oil from the pan using a spoon. Discard the same way you discard used cooking oil (e.g., in a container or something but not down the sink).

5

Once the fat is removed, set your pan back flat on the stove and spread the beef out. You are now ready to add seasonings, etc.
